A
native of Texas, Dr. Barron graduated from Baylor University and then attended the University of Texas
Medical Branch at Galveston. He completed his orthopedic
residency training at Carolinas Medical Center prior to a
sports medicine fellowship at the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopedic Clinic,
in Los Angeles. He trained under Dr. Frank Jobe assisting
with orthopedic treatment for the Los Angeles Lakers, Dodgers, Kings,
and Rams as well as the Anaheim Angels.
Dr. Barron has practiced orthopedic surgery in Charlotte
for 15 years specializing in knee, shoulder, and elbow arthroscopy,
as well as reconstruction of knee, shoulder, and elbow athletic
injuries. His current academic and clinical interests include
cartilage repair and replacement as well as ACL injury prevention
in the female athlete, arthroscopic rotator cuff repair, and shoulder replacement for arthritis..
Having a strong sense of community involvement, Dr. Barron
has served as a volunteer for local events such as the Shrine
Bowl, ACC Basketball and baseball tournaments, AAU Junior
Olympics, and the Military Classic of the South. He currently serves on the Charlotte
Basketball Committee and is a member of the Charlotte Sports
Commission. Dr. Barron also served as team physician for Davidson College and UNCC for 7 years.
Education remains an important part of his responsibilities
as an orthopedic surgeon. Dr. Barron serves as a clinical
preceptor for the residents of the Internal Medicine Program
at Carolinas Medical Center and students of the physician’s
assistants training program at Duke University and Wake Forest.
He has given numerous presentations at local symposiums for
physical therapists, athletic trainers, and coaches on a variety
of sports medicine topics.
